Breach - Grieta
Threads of Resilience Exhibition. 2021
Copper can present different colors: the metallic of reddish brown, the green of oxidation, or the blue of copper sulfate. I worked with copper’s properties to represent diversity in our world.
My piece starts with the colors being clearly separated, followed by a gap in the fabric that simulates the breach present in the fabric of society. Then, the colors begin to run from side to side, generating a conversation between them. This interaction between colors emulates the necessity for cooperation and discussion between different parts of our communities to achieve understanding and respect, leading to mutual acceptance.
